Recalling Past Lives

In September, 1983, in Glendale, California, I participated in one of Dr. Helen Wambach's workshops titled, "Experiencing a Past Life Under Hypnosis." During the workshop, I was able to reexperience four past lives, including progression to a future life.

Guided by my aunt, Loraine Rockwood Farnsworth, a very spiritual person, I had read Dr. Wambach's two books, Reliving Past Lives and Life Before Life (both published in 1978 by Bantam paperback books). It was Aunt Loraine who persuaded me to sign up for Dr. Wambach's workshop.

Shortly after Dr. Wambach's workshop I attended a past-life regression demonstration by Dr. Morris Netherton of Los Angeles. Unlike Dr. Wambach, Dr. Netherton was able to elicit past-life memories without using hypnosis. I found this approach extremely fascinating. In The Passing of Merlin Zauber I used both the Wambach and Netherton techniques as a model for Sibyl's technique of eliciting past-life memories in the afterlife. Those interested in Dr. Netherton's approach will want to read his book, Past Lives Therapy (William Morrow, 1978).

I found subsequently that using the same invocation that Dr. Wambach had used, I was able through self-hypnosis to recover about twenty past lives. At a certain point, however, it proved too stressful continually to be reexperiencing death, so I decided that since I was already familiar with the lives that were most essential to my understanding of who I am and how I got that way, it was time for me to call a halt to investigating the various chapters of my soul's journey.
